Off with a 5k BANG!

Day 1.

My daughter's school was doing a 5k as a fundraiser for the school. Before I had even decided to start myself down the path of healthy living "officially", I had already signed up the whole family to do the 5k. It just so happens the 5k fell on my first day of my journey! I wish I could take credit and claim genius for planning to do this 5k on day 1 as some sort of symbolic idea, but alas, I can't. It truly was just coincidence (or was it?)!

I really, truly wish I could have tried to see how far I could run the thing, REALLY. My mind said "YES!", but I knew my body would say "NO!" A couple months ago, I did some running on the track at the local rec center (where I go for most of my regular workouts) and I managed to strain my right hip extremely bad. I've never encountered an injury like that before from exerc
ising, so I've been really concerned about re-injuring it, so I've ruled out street running for the time being until I can figure out what is really the issue. Fortunately, there is still plenty I can do to exercise besides street running!

So, once we were given the go-ahead, we
took off, giant double stroller and all! I knew that there was no way we could run with that beastly thing and the kids, so we most definitely walked, but we walked like it was going out of style! I was so impressed that my oldest, KK, didn't even ask once to be c
arried! She did state that she was getting tired towards the end, but shoot! I don't blame her little twig 6-year-old legs after walking over 3 miles! A and M enjoyed the stroller. M passed out cold and A kept trying to talk to everyone we passed by, goofy kid! Thanks to the Husband-Guy pushing the stroller the whole way (even up the hill that I completely didn't anticipate), I was able to forge ahead and keep at the pace I was going. KK kept up with me and once we got close to the finish line back at the school, we ran and crossed the line feeling GREAT! KK and I finished in 57:04, which I figured wasn't bad at all with having the WHOLE family in tow! I, for sure, thought it would take over an hour because we'd have to slow down for the kids. So, yay for us!

When we were driving home, I asked KK if she ha
d fun and of course she did! I also asked her if she wanted to do another 5K again and I heard a resounding "YES!" back! She was so proud to show everyone her racing number and t-shirt. I'm pretty happy about having my whole family involved in doing something healthy TOGETHER. The only way I'm going to be able to get healthy and stay healthy is if I have the support of my family!

But one thing I am not?

HEALTHY.

Ouch.

That sucks. BAD. I have it all going for me in my life. It truly is a blessed life! But what good does that do me if I can't enjoy it to the fullest because of my health?

Am I the most unhealthy and overweight person to have embarked on a journey such as this? No. Although, I suppose by medical standards, I am considered obese. Ouch again. I also have borderline high cholesterol, which I get no help with from genetics, so I have to work doubly hard to control that! I also have aching joints and muscles that I just shouldn't have. I'm not even 30. I know it's from all this extra weight I'm carrying around.

So why should you follow my blog? You're probably thinking I'm just some other random shlub with a weight loss blog. Who cares, right? Well, I am feeling this is more of a two way street. I need followers as a source of accountability. Sure I do have a supportive network of family and friends. But there is something to be said about putting it all out there for all to see. There is no place to hide if it's all out there. Plus, I also feel that I want to be a source of inspiration and hopefully even a little bit of entertainment too! We all have the ability to be healthy individuals who enjoy life to the fullest, so it is great that we can all be there for each other!

Tomorrow is October 1, 2011. My official start date of this long, hard, but oh-so-worth-it journey of mine. Stay tuned, as I will be kicking off my journey with quite a BANG!

Welcome To My Journey!

Welcome everyone! I am starting this blog in an attempt to better hold myself accountable for my health! So far, all other methods have had some success, but not many. So I figure, why not enlist the help of the masses to follow my weight loss journey with the final destination being AWESOME health!

Please bear with me as I continue to build this blog. The asthetics will be fine tuned, but the posting will always be stellar!

Thanks for following My Muffin Top Maddness!
